Stephanie Yoakum ACNP-BC
Stephanie Yoakum is a board-certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner specializing in Cardiac Electrophysiology with more than 25 years of cardiovascular nursing and advanced practice experience. She currently serves as a Cardiac Electrophysiology Nurse Practitioner at the VA San Diego Healthcare System, where she provides comprehensive care for patients with complex cardiac arrhythmias, implantable cardiac devices, and electrophysiology procedures.
Throughout her career, Stephanie has held advanced practice roles at leading academic and healthcare institutions including UC San Diego Health, VA San Diego Healthcare System, UCLA Medical Center, UCLA Healthcare Santa Monica, Los Angeles Cardiology Associates, and the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Her clinical expertise includes management of cardiac arrhythmias, cardiac implantable electronic devices (pacemakers, ICDs, and CRT devices), remote monitoring, atrial fibrillation, ventricular arrhythmias, syncope evaluation, and advanced electrophysiology therapies.
Stephanie is an Adjunct Clinical Faculty member for the Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner Program at San Diego State University School of Nursing, where she has taught and mentored nurse practitioner students since 2011. She is a frequent lecturer on cardiovascular topics including electrocardiography, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, electrophysiology, and cardiac device management.
A recognized national educator and speaker, Stephanie has presented at meetings sponsored by the Heart Rhythm Society (HRS), American College of Cardiology (ACC), California Association for Nurse Practitioners (CANP), Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA), and numerous regional and institutional conferences. She participated in the inaugural Heart Rhythm Society Leadership and Education for Allied Professionals (LEAP) Program and has contributed to professional education initiatives focused on cardiac rhythm management and remote monitoring.
Stephanie is a published author and researcher whose work has focused on the use of cardiac implantable electronic devices to detect recurrent atrial fibrillation following catheter ablation. She is a co-author of the chapter “Cardiac Implantable Electronic Devices and LVAD Deactivation” in Case-Based Device Therapy for Heart Failure (Springer, 2021).
She earned a Master of Science in Nursing as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner from UCLA, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Mount Saint Mary's College, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Loyola Marymount University.
