Dr. Peter Eckman is a national leader in mechanical circulatory support, and is the currently the head of the Section of Advanced Heart Failure and Critical Care Cardiology at the Allina Health Minneapolis Heart Institute. Prior to his current position, he was an Associate Professor and the Section Head of Heart Failure at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Eckman has published extensively on mechanical circulatory support and serves as a reviewer for numerous journals and a Section Editor for Mechanical Circulatory Support for ASAIO Journal.

He is an active member of the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation, the Heart Failure Society of America, the American College of Cardiology, the American Society of Artificial Internal Organs, the American Heart Association, and the American Society of Transplantation. He is board certified in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology, Cardiovascular Medicine, and Internal Medicine. His medical training was completed at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and the University of Minnesota. Dr. Eckman also olds a BA in physics from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN.
