Michelle Whyte PhD

Michelle Whyte, PhD, RN, is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and a staff nurse caring for patients with cardiac and vascular conditions at a Level I Trauma Center. Her research focuses on the influence of social and environmental determinants of health on heart failure self-care. Guided by a socioecological model of heart failure self-care that she developed, her doctoral research examined the relationships among food insecurity, social support, health literacy, and heart failure self-care. Dr. Whyte has published her work in peer-reviewed nursing and heart failure journals, and her research has been accepted for presentation at regional and national professional conferences. Her scholarship aims to inform nursing interventions that address social and environmental barriers to effective heart failure self-management.
