Johana Rocio Fajardo DNP, ANP-BC CHFN FHFSA obtained a BS in Nursing at Florida Atlantic University in 2004 and joined the open-heart surgery team at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where she participated in the care of Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) and Heart Transplant patients. During her six years working on the cardiac surgery team, she obtained a Master’s of Science in Nursing as an Adult/Gerontology Nurse Practitioner and a Certificate in Nursing Education at the University of Maryland. Subsequently, she graduated with a Doctorate in Nursing Practice in 2017.

As a Nurse Practitioner, Dr. Fajardo helped start an outpatient Heart Failure Clinic and was awarded the Johns Hopkins Heart of Gold award in 2014 and the Heart Failure Society of America Clinical Excellence in Nursing award in 2017. Dr. Fajardo also created a support group for patients with Cardiac Amyloidosis, becoming part of the national Amyloidosis Support Group Association. Her work in cardiac amyloidosis was also recognized by winning first place in a poster competition at the International Society of Amyloidosis Symposium in Kumamoto, Japan.

In 2018, Dr. Fajardo moved to Charleston, SC to join the LVAD and Heart Failure teams to collaborate in the establishment of an Amyloidosis center at the Medical University of South Carolina. More recently, she became the medical director of the LVAD quality of life program. Dr. Fajardo is a Certified Heart Failure Nurse, a fellow of the Heart Failure Society of America, and currently serves on the Education Committee for the American Association of Heart Failure Nurses.
